why do people look like their art styles so much

but you can look at a person then at their art then back at the person and be like “yes, this is definitely the person who drew this”

What Connie did was NOT stupid.
Steven’s plan wasn’t going to work. He couldn’t even get Blue and Yellow to take him seriously and listen to him, he was never going to get White Diamond to do anything.
The relationship Steven has with the Diamonds is a parent/child relationship. People have said it before, but Steven coming to homeworld is like a queer person coming back to their conservative parents. They aren’t taking him seriously, they’re deadnaming him, etc.
Connie has very authoritarian parents. When she wanted to train to become a sword fighter, lying to her Mom and sneaking around didn’t work. It wasn’t until she “acted out” - fought the monsters at the hospital- that she had a real negotiation with her mom and she actually got what she wanted and was permitted to train. Connie understands how to navigate this situation better than the rest of them right now.
This same thing is happening in homeworld- the sneaking around. Steven and the crystal gems are giving into every rule of the Diamond. Pearl is back acting as servant, Amethyst is wearing limb enhancers, Garnet even SPLITS UP to put on appearances. They are NEVER going to get what they want from the Diamonds if they’re just giving into all the Diamonds’ demands. The Diamonds are already getting everything they want.
What Connie did was RISKY but it wasn’t STUPID. Throwing a boring protocol party wasn’t ever going to get White Diamond’s attention. What Connie did was RIGHT and GOOD and I’m GLAD Bismuth is going to show up because they need to stop following Homeworld Rules.
EDIT: Adding to this a point I just realized- in the sauna Yellow says White ignores her because Yellow is so successful and theres no reason for White to intervene. Steven suggests that Yellow fail intentionally to get White’s attention. HM.
The watermelon Stevens are analogous to the gem homeworld- they are an entire society of lifeforms created with diamond essence. Steven possessing a watermelon Steven is possibly the same thing as what White Diamond is doing to Pink (?) Pearl to control her. Steven is just annoyed by the watermelon Stevens and doesn’t care about their issues (much like aloof White Diamond who can’t be bothered.) Steven thinks so little of their lives he even destroys a watermelon Steven while on his mission.
